Florida is a small inland municipality in Puerto Rico's karst region in the North, sitting north of Ciales, south of Barceloneta, east of Arecibo, and west of Manatí, roughly 31 miles from San Juan. It covers about 26 km² and is home to approximately 11,692 residents, making it one of the island's smaller municipalities in both size and population.
Founded in 1971, Florida is one of the island's youngest municipalities and is administratively unusual: rather than the multiple barrios typical elsewhere in Puerto Rico, it consists of a single barrio, Florida Adentro, along with the Florida Zona Urbana and the Pajonal comunidad. It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area, and its cultural heritage is reflected in the Ruinas de Hacienda Florida.
