Hacienda San Pedro, a coffee shop in Santurce, is celebrating its 18th anniversary of promoting Puerto Rican coffee culture. According to Rebecca Atienza, owner of Hacienda San Pedro Coffee Shop, the goal was not only to serve good coffee but to educate consumers about the work behind each harvest and value the product grown in Puerto Rico.
Atienza stated that 18 years ago, they began with an ambitious idea to make people fall in love with Puerto Rican coffee by knowing its origin and valuing the work of those who cultivate it. Today, they see more educated consumers interested in supporting local products and proud of their coffee.
The business is also linked to a family tradition of over three generations dedicated to coffee cultivation, started by Roberto Atienza. Hacienda San Pedro has served thousands of cups of Puerto Rican coffee and has seen the country's coffee culture change, with consumers now more interested in the origin and production process of their coffee.
