The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) announced it completed repair work at the Sergio Cuevas filtration plant Wednesday night. AAA Executive President Luis González Delgado said work at the Carraízo dam had already finished earlier, while at the filtration plant crews had to repair a leak identified in a 48-inch pipe, completed around 7:30 p.m. Once finished, AAA's operational team began gradually restoring the system to stabilize the distribution network and recover service to communities served by these facilities.
González Delgado said during the scheduled outage, AAA also completed long-delayed work, including replacing valves at the Carraízo dam, maintenance on electrical substations, installing a new 30-inch valve at the Sergio Cuevas plant, chlorination system improvements, and various distribution network repairs. He noted improved water production at the plant since restoration began, allowing more water to be injected into the network. He stressed these efforts are key to strengthening resilience and reliability of the drinking water system serving over 180,000 customers in the metropolitan region.
AAA cautioned that service recovery will be gradual and vary by elevation and distance from the plant, meaning some communities may take longer to regain water supply.
