The Arecibo Prosecutor's Office is evaluating charges against Juan Carlos Marrero López, 46, for animal cruelty after he allegedly beat his neighbor's pet to death. On Wednesday, a complaint was received through the 911 Emergency System about an aggressive person on PR-140 highway in the Ceboruco neighborhood of Barceloneta. Officer Rafael Luciano Ruiz investigated and spoke with Isaías Concepción Torres, who stated that Marrero López entered his patio with a wooden stick and killed his dog.
Marrero López then barricaded himself in his residence. After unsuccessful attempts to persuade him to surrender, the Arecibo Command Center requested the Crisis Intervention Team, and with a search warrant and arrest order issued by Judge Nivia Candelaria Martes, Marrero López was taken into custody. He has a prior criminal record for mistreating elderly individuals in 2018.
The current status of the case in court is unknown.
