Prosecutor Héctor Ramírez Carbó Named Interim Head of Federal Prosecutor's Office in Puerto Rico

The Federal Prosecutor's Office for the District of San Juan announced Thursday morning that Héctor Ramírez Carbó will serve as interim head following the resignation of W. Stephen Muldrow last week. Ramírez Carbó has worked at the federal Prosecutor's Office for more than 17 years, having held roles as a civil and criminal prosecutor, chief of the Civil Division, and, since 2020, deputy chief of the office.

A press release stated that as interim U.S. Attorney, Ramírez Carbó serves as the top federal law enforcement official for the District of Puerto Rico, overseeing federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation on behalf of the United States, and coordinating with federal, state and local police agencies. Muldrow, who resigned effective Tuesday, July 7, 2026, said in a statement that serving as U.S.

Attorney had been the greatest honor of his professional life, after 37 years with the Department of Justice. He was sworn in on October 4, 2019. Under his leadership, the office secured notable convictions, including former Guaynabo mayor Ángel Pérez, former Cataño mayor Félix "el Cano" Delgado, and former representative María Milagros "Tata" Charbonier.
