Manuel J. Morell Martínez, a 36-year-old resident of Mayagüez, was charged with making a false bomb threat and threatening government officials. An investigation by the Puerto Rico Police's Explosives and Public Safety Office found that on July 13, several bomb threats were received via email at the Department of Justice, the Court Administration Office, and the Mayagüez prosecutor's office.
The threats also targeted government officials. Agents Félix Otero Quiñones and Antonio Pérez Solivan, under the supervision of Sergeant Efraín Andreu Seguí, conducted the investigation. The evidence was presented to Judge Arelys M.
Ortiz Rivera, who determined there was enough cause for a trial and set a $50,000 bail, which Morell Martínez did not pay. He was then arrested and taken to the Bayamón Correctional Complex. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 26.
