Judge Rafael Lugo Morales of the Arecibo Tribunal found cause for arrest against 46-year-old Juan Carlos Marrero López, who allegedly entered a residence in Barceloneta and killed a dog with a wooden stick. Marrero López faces charges of aggravated trespassing, carrying and using a white weapon, and aggravated animal cruelty. According to the Police investigation, the incident occurred on July 8 after a 9-1-1 call reported an aggressive person in the Seboruco neighborhood.
The defendant allegedly entered the victim's patio with a wooden stick and fatally attacked the dog. Marrero López then barricaded himself in his residence, prompting the authorities to activate the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), which negotiated his arrest. Judge Lugo Morales set a $150,000 bond, which was not posted, and Marrero López was taken to the Bayamón Metropolitan Intake Center.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 22.
