Tropical Wave Brings Humidity and Heat to Puerto Rico

Updated Jul 12, 2026 · via NotiCel

A tropical wave passing south of the region will increase humidity today and Monday, leading to more showers, mainly in the interior and western parts of Puerto Rico. The additional humidity will also make the heat index reach between 100 and 111 °F. A Heat Warning is in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Moderate concentrations of Saharan dust will continue over the islands, keeping the sky hazy and reducing visibility at times. East winds will continue to be moderate to strong, making the sea rough and potentially hindering outdoor activities. There is also a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents at several beaches, which can be deadly, especially near piers, breakwaters, and sandbanks.

The dry environment, high temperatures, and wind will maintain a high risk of vegetation fires, especially on the southern coast of Puerto Rico. Showers today will focus mainly on the interior and western parts of the island, with the strongest downpours potentially causing water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas.
