A 64-year-old woman, Wanda Rivera Janeiro, was run over by a 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross at around 11:46 p.m. on Sunday in Carolina, at the intersection of PR-26 and Avenida Monserrate. According to the police, Rivera Janeiro was crossing a road not designated for pedestrians when she was hit.
The driver, who remained at the scene, was given a breath test, which showed 0% alcohol in their system. Rivera Janeiro suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Centro Médico de Río Piedras hospital, where her condition is listed as guarded.
The Carolina Highway Patrol Division is investigating the incident.
