The Comité Diálogo Ambiental de Salinas held a learning event to conserve natural resources, attended by over 40 young people who participated in workshops, educational tours, and practical activities to strengthen their knowledge of nature. The 20th edition of the Convivencia Ambiental 'José 'Cheo Blanco' Ortiz Agront' aimed to promote youth leadership through experiences that integrate science, conservation, art, culture, and community participation.
The event, held under the slogan 'Vientos de cambio que respiramos en comunidad', coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Comité Diálogo Ambiental, a community organization founded on February 15, 1996, recognized for its work in defending natural areas, education, and environmental justice in Puerto Rico. The program included a emergency preparedness workshop, activities to develop identity through artisanal flag-making, and a workshop on air and water pollution in Salinas.
Participants also received guidance on the use of vetiver, a plant valued for its deep roots that can stabilize soil and contribute to pollution mitigation. As part of an ecological restoration effort, the activity included a planting day for this species in an area of the former Pedro Soto School facilities in the San Felipe community.
