In San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, a farm called Nebai Fruit and Farm, owned by Miguel Soto Lisboa, cultivates a variety of exotic fruits such as apples, pears, plums, peaches, kiwis, and more. Despite the tropical climate, Soto Lisboa claims that these fruits prosper better in drier environments.
With 24 years of experience, he is one of the few farmers in Puerto Rico to cultivate these exotic fruits, which are often considered unusual for the island's climate. Soto Lisboa has an experimental area on his farm and five rows of fruit trees that can be grown in small spaces, such as urbanization patios.
He sells small trees of these exotic fruits in his garden, located in the Hoyamala neighborhood of San Sebastián, and also sells the fruits themselves when in season. Soto Lisboa's clients are mostly from the metropolitan area, who travel to San Sebastián to purchase these unique trees, priced at an average of $40 per pot.
