Representatives of the industrial sector in Puerto Rico are calling on their peers to adopt efficiency measures to reduce dependence on the basic service of potable water, which is currently facing access and stability issues. Geannette Siberón, president of Environmental & Safety Engineering Solutions, emphasized that the industrial sector competes with commerce, population, and agricultural sectors for this scarce resource.
Siberón recommended developing a water risk management plan, which is already a requirement for multinational companies operating in Puerto Rico, and proposed basic infrastructure arrangements such as renovating bathrooms with water-free equipment and fixing minor leaks. She also suggested utilizing existing technology to reduce and reuse water consumption, citing examples of successful implementations in other industries.
The president of the Association of Industrials and the executive president of the Aqueducts and Sewers Authority, Luis González Delgado, also participated in the conversation on water security.
