Why this matters: With drought conditions stressing Puerto Rico’s reservoirs, the AAA’s $1.8 million investment in private repair brigades directly affects how much treated water reaches households instead of leaking from old pipes.

The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) reported Monday that it has completed 28,699 water leak repairs since May 28, representing 94% of the reports received over that period. Executive president Luis González Delgado said AAA brigades and private contractor crews handled an average of 1,367 leaks per week. "These numbers reflect the daily effort of our brigades and the priority this administration gives to reducing the loss of potable water. Every leak we repair is water that reaches homes and, during a drought, that resource is more valuable than ever," González Delgado said.

As part of the operation, the AAA invested $1.8 million to hire additional private brigades supporting repair work in different areas of Puerto Rico. The corporation asked residents to report any leaks they spot, even if previously reported, through its hotline (787) 993-2440, available 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM seven days a week and dedicated exclusively to leak complaints.

Callers should give the exact location, including the road or street and a reference point. Leaks can also be reported around the clock through the Mi Acueductos mobile app in the "Reportar Salideros" section, which allows users to include the physical address and a photograph of the affected area.
