The municipality of Carolina is participating in the 'Desocupar los Albergues' campaign, an initiative by Telemundo Puerto Rico and NBC Universal, from August 1 to 31. The campaign aims to promote animal welfare and responsible pet care. According to Mayor José Carlos Aponte, the municipality has supported the campaign since its first edition, which has transformed the lives of thousands of animals.
In 2025, 578 dogs and cats were adopted during the campaign, with Carolina being one of the participants with the highest number of adopciones. The Centro de Control de Animales de Carolina (CCA) will encourage citizens to give a second chance to dogs and cats waiting for a loving home. Sandra M.
Suárez, veterinarian and director of the CCA, invited those considering adopting a pet to visit the adoption rooms. The CCA's services and adoption program information can be found by visiting the shelter from Tuesday to Saturday or by calling 787-757-2626 ext. 4806.
