Thieves scaled and stole money from an ATM at the Cooperativa de Las Piedras during the night of Wednesday, according to the Police press office. The incident occurred at 10:42 p.m. when several individuals cut the power and security camera cables at the Centro Piezas Plus business, located next to the cooperative.
The thieves caused damage to the front glass door of the business, accessed the interior, and stole $546.88 in cash and a 2019 white Toyota Prius. The total amount stolen from the ATM was $51,940.
Neighbors reported hearing noises, voices of men talking on the phone, footsteps, and the sound of an electric saw during the incident. Agent Yasmary Ortiz Ortiz from the Bank Robbery Division will continue the investigation, while the case of the auto parts business burglary was referred to the Property Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Humacao.
