The president of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, Luis R. González Delgado, stated that dirt in the water tanks at the Hospital Pavía in Hato Rey is likely the cause of the black, foul-smelling water that has been affecting the hospital for several days.
The issue was reported by Desirée López, international representative of the United Auto Workers union, who requested the hospital's closure due to the water's strong odor, resembling feces. González Delgado explained that the water tank had run out of supply and was using the remaining water, which was dirty and had not been properly cleaned.
The union leader expressed concerns about the patients' and employees' hygiene and safety, and requested an investigation by the Department of Health. The hospital's administration is being held responsible by the union for the situation.
