The Unión Independiente Auténtica de Empleados de la Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (UIA-AAA) announced Thursday that negotiations with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) on the Classification and Compensation Plan (PCR) for unionized workers have advanced. The progress came during a meeting at the Department of Labor and Human Resources, where AAA’s administration presented a proposal that, according to UIA-AAA, allows the negotiation process to move forward.
UIA-AAA president José E. Cajigas Romero said a major step forward had been taken while defending members’ claims. AAA executive president Luis R. González Delgado said both parties reached agreements advancing implementation of the PCR, thanking the union leadership for constructive dialogue. No figures, financial terms, or specific negotiation details have been disclosed yet, as formal processes remain.
Next steps include AAA’s administration presenting the agreements to the corporation’s Governing Board for consideration and approval, followed by review from the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF). UIA-AAA must also convene a workers’ assembly to present the terms for ratification by its membership, which Cajigas Romero emphasized has the final say.
