14 Years of Waiting: Teachers Still Haven't Received Payment for Teaching Career

Published Jul 30, 2026 · via Radio Isla

The Secretary of the Department of Education, Eliezer Ramos Parés, announced that the agency is waiting for the Office of Management and Budget (OGP) to authorize the payment to professionals in the teaching career. Although the government allocated $90.4 million in June to settle a 14-year debt with teachers, Ramos Parés indicated that the process has not been completed and the debt remains pending.

The Department of Education has made individual calculations for each teacher and is awaiting further instructions from the OGP. The debt has been ongoing for 14 years, and the government's allocation in June was intended to settle this debt.
