Superintendent of Police Joseph González Falcón stated that police services were not affected despite a protest by members of two police unions and retired agents in front of the Police Headquarters in Hato Rey. The protest was related to salary adjustments for police officers. González Falcón reported that around 1,000 agents were absent from work during the first shift, exceeding the daily average of 600.
However, he claimed that all police stations were operational and that he utilized resources from federal agencies and municipal police to maintain services. The leaders of the participating unions, Asociación de Policías Organizados and Asociación Policías Unidos Luchando, clarified that they did not call for a work stoppage or absenteeism. González Falcón also addressed concerns about salary adjustments, stating that he understands the frustration of agents who have not received their adjustments and assured that they will receive what they are due.
He also clarified a previous statement about 'mediocre' police officers, explaining that he misunderstood the term due to language barriers and that he has respect and support for all police officers.
