Metropistas, the consortium that manages Puerto Rico’s highways, delivered 11 new fully equipped patrol vehicles to the Puerto Rico Police following a $690,000 investment to strengthen surveillance and response capacity on the island’s main roads. With these units, 57 patrol cars have now been provided to the Police Bureau’s Highway and Highway Patrol Divisions. Metropistas CEO Julián Fernández Rodes said the Police are a key piece of the consortium’s management and that safe mobility requires joint effort, adding the company’s commitment goes beyond managing infrastructure.
Governor Jenniffer González Colón said the 11 new patrol cars represent concrete support for agents and strengthen their ability to prevent accidents and handle emergencies. Police Superintendent Joseph González Falcón said the vehicles, properly equipped with the technology and resources for patrol work, are a significant contribution to operational capacity and thanked Metropistas for the public-private collaboration.
The new Dodge Charger Police Pursuit units will be distributed among the six Highway Police barracks. Josué A. Colón Ortiz, executive director of the Public-Private Partnerships Authority, called the delivery a concrete example of the public benefit these alliances generate. The donation complements Metropistas’ ongoing highway safety efforts, including lighting projects, pavement maintenance, signage, system modernization, and its free 24/7 highway assistance service.
