Veterans, Be Aware: Time Running Out to Apply for Property Tax Exemption

Published Jul 30, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The Procurador del Veterano de Puerto Rico, Agustín Montañez Allman, urged the veteran community to apply for a property tax exemption at the Centro de Recaudación de Ingresos Municipales (CRIM) before the end of July. The deadline to apply for this exemption is this Friday, July 31.

Montañez Allman emphasized that this economic relief is a right established by Law 203-2007, also known as the Carta de Derechos del Veterano Puertorriqueño del Siglo XXI, which aims to provide social justice to those who have served in the US Armed Forces. To apply, veterans must fill out the CRIM's Modelo AS-38 form, provide a copy of their DD-214 or evidence of honorable service, and submit the property deed or proof of ownership.

They must also provide certification of their disability percentage and proof that the property is their primary residence. Interested individuals can receive personalized guidance by visiting the central offices in Hato Rey or calling (787) 758-7050.
