The Police have reclassified the death of Jorge Luis Bermúdez Rivera, 36, as a homicide. Bermúdez Rivera, a resident of Carolina, was found dead in a field in Río Grande on July 27.
Initially, the case was reported as a suspicious death, but after an examination at the Institute of Forensic Sciences, it was determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Bermúdez Rivera had a record of violations of the Controlled Substances Act and the Domestic Violence Law.
This case brings the total number of homicides reported by the Police this year to 272, two more than the 270 reported at the same time in 2025. The body was found near kilometer 23.5 of PR-186, and a person who saw it called the Police station in Río Grande at 7:09 am on July 27.
