The historic Eugenio María de Hostos school in Mayagüez has been transformed into the Integrated Services Complex for the Head Start Program, inaugurated by Mayor Jorge Ramos and Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández. The $22 million project, funded with $12,690,039 in federal recovery funds and municipal contributions, will provide educational and support services to children and families in Mayagüez, Añasco, Maricao, and Las Marías.
The complex features six preschool centers, a kitchen, an amphitheater, and other facilities, offering free services including meals, educational support, social work, health, and nutrition. Mayor Ramos stated that the project represents an investment in the future of Mayagüez and Puerto Rico, and that it will serve as a center of hope, learning, and development for local children.
The complex will have an open house on Thursday.
