Invest 92L Could Become Tropical Depression in Coming Days

Published Aug 12, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Invest 92L could develop into a tropical depression in the coming days, raising its development probability by 10 percentage points. The system is currently located about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and remains a tropical wave, but environmental conditions are expected to become favorable for development. The NHC stated a tropical depression will likely form as the system moves west and west-northwest across the central tropical Atlantic.

The agency raised the probability of development over the next 48 hours to 80%, a 10% increase, and maintained an 80% probability over the next seven days. The National Weather Service (NWS) office in San Juan noted there is still uncertainty regarding the system's track, intensity, and timing of development, as well as any direct or indirect impact it could have on Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Given this scenario, residents are advised to continue monitoring forecasts from the NHC and local weather authorities.
