In San Lorenzo, a hidden gem known as the Quebrada Blanca, which feeds the most abundant river in Puerto Rico, has been a cherished spot for locals and a subject of study for archaeologists. The area features over a dozen petroglifos, including 'caritas' created by the Ostionoid culture over a thousand years ago.
Researchers such as Irving Rouse, Antonio Daubón, Pedro Alvarado, and Leyla Comulada have studied the site. A narrow path, watched over by neighbors, leads to the quebrada, surrounded by steep cliffs and filled with wildlife, including spiders, ducks, and palm trees.
A USGS rain gauge is also located in the area, integrated into NOAA's Automated Hydrologic Data System. The quebrada offers a peaceful escape from summer temperatures, with warm waters and rough sand, and its fresh air is a respite from neighboring towns.
