The historic building of the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory, located at 951 Ponce de León Avenue in Miramar, has a long and varied history. Originally, it was a school for girls from high society during the Spanish era, and later fell into disuse and abandonment. The building was also used as a warehouse for the DTOP, a public agency.
In 1985, it was designated as a historic site by the US National Park Service. The building's neoclassical style is representative of 19th-century institutional constructions in Puerto Rico. According to the National Park Service, the building has a symmetrical composition, with a series of vertical openings aligned on four levels, and its proportions and elegant simplicity make it worthy of merit and recognition.
The building was constructed around a central rectangular patio with dimensions of approximately 74 feet by 48.5 feet.
