Los Capitanes de Arecibo will appoint a new leader in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) by September 15, following the departure of coach Juan Cardona. Cardona left the team after three seasons and has already signed with the Gigantes de Carolina-Canóvanas. Gabriel Miranda, the team's general manager, stated that they are evaluating candidates and will meet with José Manuel Baeza to discuss the new coach.
Nelson Colón and David Rosario, who won three titles with Arecibo, are potential candidates. The team prefers an experienced coach who can work with young teams. Los Capitanes last won a championship in 2021 and were eliminated in the quarterfinals under Cardona's leadership.
Meanwhile, Carlos González, who resigned from the Gigantes after five seasons, is expected to be hired by the Cangrejeros de Santurce.
