A 31-year-old man, Carlos David Pérez Rodríguez, from Mayagüez, was found dead in his cell at the Complejo Correccional Sgto. Pedro Rodríguez Mateo in Ponce.
According to the authorities, Pérez Rodríguez was being held since March 2026 for domestic violence and firearms law violations. A correctional officer found him unresponsive in his bed during a routine check, and a doctor confirmed the absence of vital signs.
Preliminary reports indicate no visible signs of violence on the body. Agent Valentín from the Ponce CIC's Homicide Division, along with prosecutor Ada Torres, is investigating the case.
