The Puerto Rico national basketball teams are introducing a new sports apparel brand, Capelli Sports, to their uniforms, replacing Nike. The agreement between Capelli Sports and the Puerto Rico Basketball Federation (FBPUR) will last until 2029, according to FBPUR president Yum Ramos. Capelli Sports, based in New York and founded in 2011, is primarily associated with soccer, having dressed the Cape Verde national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The brand has also partnered with FIFA to market practice and fan balls during the 2026 World Cup. Ramos expressed satisfaction with the agreement, stating that the clothing is of good quality and that the federation is working on designs. The initial uniforms feature solid colors and a design with solitary stars on the sides of the shirts and pants.
The federation will work with Capelli Sports annually to adjust the designs. The Puerto Rico women's national team will compete in the 2026 World Cup in Germany starting this Friday, marking the debut of the new uniforms.
