The Puerto Rico Basketball Federation (FBPUR) has officially announced the incorporation of basketball player Enrique Freeman into the national program ahead of the third qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. Freeman, 25, is the son of Puerto Rican Tania Torres and is eligible to play for Puerto Rico. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2024 NBA Draft and has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Iowa Wolves.
Freeman will wear the Puerto Rico colors for the first time in the upcoming qualifying window. Puerto Rico is set to play crucial away games against Canada and the Bahamas on July 3 and 6, after winning only one of their first four games. The team currently occupies third place in Group B with a 1-3 record.
FBPUR President Yum Ramos had previously confirmed that Freeman would join the national team for the third qualifying window.
