Prosecutor Amanda Cancel filed charges of elder abuse against Carlos A. Santiago Maldonado, 47, of Utuado, for allegedly selling a 78-year-old man a 1999 Mazda B-2500 truck and four cans of sealant for $700 without delivering the property.
The investigation, led by Agent Alexis Santiago Crespo, found that the incident occurred in July. Judge Francisco Ortiz Caraballo of the Utuado Court determined there was probable cause for arrest and set a $10,000 bond, which Santiago Maldonado posted, allowing him to remain free under electronic supervision with an ankle monitor until the preliminary hearing.
