Governor Jenniffer González revealed that Luis González, engineer and president of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA), had wanted to step down from his post, but she asked him to remain given the ongoing drought crisis. She said he had offered his resignation months ago, and she repeatedly asked him to stay to help manage the drought response.
González Colón did not deny that the administration has been searching for a replacement, including former AAA presidents, but said one obstacle to recruiting a new leader is the salary gap between the public post and private-sector pay. She noted that some potential candidates in the private sector earn more than half a million dollars, far above what the AAA presidency pays, calling this a recurring problem since public corporation salaries don't compare to private-sector salaries.
The governor made the comments during a press gaggle addressing rumors of González's resignation.
