Prominent Puerto Rican Lawyer Luis F. Abreu Elías Passes Away at 89

Luis F. Abreu Elías, a prominent lawyer and former member of the Colegio de Abogados y Abogadas de Puerto Rico (CAAPR), passed away on Friday at the age of 89. Abreu Elías was known for his work in defending civil rights and representing high-profile clients, including independentista activist Filiberto Ojeda Ríos.

The CAAPR released a statement praising Abreu Elías' life and career, noting his commitment to justice and his role as a mentor and model for colleagues. Abreu Elías was awarded the Medalla Gilberto Concepción de Gracia in 2019 for his outstanding trajectory and commitment. His nephew, José Luis 'Fofé' Abreu, also paid tribute to him on social media, highlighting his achievements and legacy.

Abreu Elías is survived by his wife, Zenaida Arias, and son, Fernando L. Abreu Arias.
