The Public Housing Administration (AVP) has launched an initiative called 'El Sonido de la Calle' to promote urban music talent in public housing residents. The program is open to residents between 13 and 45 years old, and currently has 350 participants.
According to AVP Administrator Juan Rosario, the initiative will feature 'padrinos' who will develop a project to work with the participants. Rosario compared the initiative to a previous project called 'Our Residents Got Talent', which allowed residents to showcase their talents in dance, singing, and other artistic skills.
That project had thousands of participants and culminated in a show at the Puerto Rico Coliseum with 15 artistic presentations. The new initiative is being developed in conjunction with the Tourism Company.
