Authorities in Aguada, Puerto Rico are investigating a killing in Barrio Malpaso on PR-417 that occurred early Friday. A call to the local police district around 12:48 a.m. alerted officers to a person seeking help. Police found a woman's body in a bedroom with multiple head wounds.
Agent Kimberly Lorenzo confirmed to El Nuevo Día that the case was a matricide: "Yes, it was a son who killed his mother." Police press spokesperson Diana Hilerio identified the victim as Miriam Valentín Matos, 72, and said her son, 46, is believed responsible. The motive is unknown, but Hilerio said the man allegedly struck his mother repeatedly in the head with a "metal tool," killing her instantly. Neighbors were the ones who raised the alarm.
Authorities continue working the scene. Agent Luis Sein Egipciaco, along with prosecutor Hillary Nevárez, are handling the investigation.
