Judge Jerry Negrón Marín of the Fajardo Court found probable cause to arrest José Manuel Torres Rodríguez, 53, on feminicide charges in the death of Yaileese Mariel Pérez Cintrón, 31, on May 9 of this year. Prosecutor Daniel Feliciano Rivera charged Torres Rodríguez with first-degree murder in the modality of feminicide, carrying a firearm without a license, pointing and firing a firearm, aggravated burglary, false allegation of a crime, and obstruction of justice. After reviewing the evidence, Negrón Marín found probable cause on all charges and set bail at $1.4 million. Torres Rodríguez did not post bail and remains at the Bayamón Correctional Complex.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 23. Police say the crime occurred at 11:16 p.m.; a 911 call reported a woman's death in the Villa Hugo sector near the Vieques cemetery. Responding officers found Pérez Cintrón's body on the floor of a residence. The Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) Homicide Division in Fajardo activated the feminicide protocol.
Investigators recovered two pistols—one belonging to the victim, the other allegedly used in the crime—and a Nissan Frontier vehicle. The relationship between the alleged attacker and the victim was not disclosed.
