Following a violent attack Friday in the Viví Arriba neighborhood of Utuado, Puerto Rico, family members are urgently calling on the public to donate blood for two victims: Nélida Rivera Rodríguez, 73, and her 11-year-old grandson. Both were transferred to a hospital in the metropolitan area after being seriously wounded. According to preliminary police information, a man identified as Javier E.
González Rivera, 44, allegedly attacked his mother and nephew with a machete. Both suffered severe injuries requiring specialized care. Notably, it was the 11-year-old boy who called 9-1-1 after the attack, a call that proved crucial in getting authorities to the residence.
Family and friends have taken to social media to plead for donors, with one person writing, "Today for my family, tomorrow for yours," and another noting, "Too many donors are needed." Those wishing to help can go to the Centro Médico Blood Bank, located next to the main parking area and plaza, and specify the patients' names when donating. The blood bank operates Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and can be reached at 787-777-3844.
