Jaime Lamboy, a 52-year-old Puerto Rican lawyer, has become the chief legal officer and principal legal advisor of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in Switzerland. Despite moving to Europe nearly six years ago, Lamboy still finds ways to keep his Puerto Rican roots close, with numerous symbols of the island in his home.
As the head of FIBA's legal department since September 2020, Lamboy oversees all legal matters for the organization, which encompasses 212 national federations and entities across five continents. Prior to his role at FIBA, Lamboy had a successful career in Puerto Rico, serving as director of the Men's Superior Volleyball League, advisor to the Department of Recreation and Sports, and director of operations for the Puerto Rico Basketball Federation, among other roles.
Lamboy attributes his professional success to his upbringing and education in Puerto Rico, stating 'the professional I am, I owe to Puerto Rico, to no one else.'
