A 79-year-old man was found dead in a state of decomposition on Sunday in a residence in the San Demetrio urbanization of Vega Baja. The discovery was made after neighbors alerted authorities to a strong odor coming from the home. Lieutenant José Cruz Marrero, director of the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales (CIC) in Vega Baja, stated that the man had not been seen for several days and that preliminary indications suggest it may be a medical case.
No signs of violence were observed at the scene, and there was no evidence of forced entry. The man reportedly suffered from hypertension, and no blood or visible signs of violence were found. The identity of the deceased has not been released by authorities.
The body will be taken to the Instituto de Ciencias Forenses for analysis to determine the cause and manner of death. Agent Miguel Barreto and prosecutor Carmen Iris Ortiz are leading the investigation.
