A 60-year-old pedestrian from the Florida neighborhood in Vieques died after being struck by a 2018 gray BMW X5 on PR-53 highway in Ceiba. The incident occurred at 12:10 a.m. near kilometer 4.5, where the victim was walking on the left lane of the expressway.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle's driver remained at the scene. Elvis Zeno, director of the Police Traffic Bureau, stated that the pedestrian's negligence contributed to the accident, as it is not safe to walk on highways, especially in dark areas with dark clothing.
The case is being investigated by Agent Dionisio Molina and prosecutor Sandra Cortés, who ordered the body to be taken to the Forensic Sciences Institute. As of Sunday, the Police had reported 167 deaths in vehicle incidents, 23 fewer than the 190 registered at the same time in 2025.
