For the second time on Monday, thousands of Puerto Ricans lost electricity, this time after Unit 2 of the Aguirre Power Plant unexpectedly went offline. Genera Puerto Rico said on social media that the unit had a maximum available capacity of 275 MW before shutting down and that its technical team was investigating the cause to determine next steps.
The outage affected 122,269 customers, with San Juan hit hardest at 54,462 clients and Bayamón at 22,146 clients without power. This followed an earlier outage around noon the same day, when more than 170,000 LUMA Energy customers lost service after Unit 5 of the San Juan Power Plant went offline
