Félix A. Figueroa Rivera, a 46-year-old resident of Comerío, has been charged with providing false information to the police about a reported robbery in Cidra. According to the Police, Figueroa Rivera claimed that he was intimidated and forced to withdraw $440 from an ATM on Avenida Luis Santos during the early morning hours of July 9.
However, an investigation by the CIC's DIREPAPD unit in Caguas, led by Agent José González under the supervision of Sergeant José Medina, found no evidence to support the claim. The case was reviewed by Prosecutor Juan C. Goyco, who instructed that charges be filed under Article 268 of the Puerto Rico Penal Code for making a false statement about a crime.
Judge Nereida Salvá Sandoval determined that there was probable cause for arrest and set a $10,000 bond, which Figueroa Rivera was unable to post. He was booked and taken to the Bayamón jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 29.
