Police seized seven illegal firearms, ammunition, magazines and drugs from inside a van that appeared to be used as a storage cache during a search-warrant operation at an apartment in the Brisas de Cupey public housing project. Officers from the Division of Intelligence and Arrests were executing a warrant while searching for a man suspected of drug and firearms trafficking; he was arrested.
During the operation, officers were tipped off that illicit material was being stored in a cream-colored 1996 Honda Odyssey LX parked in front of Building 6. A K-9 unit detected the odor of controlled substances and firearms, prompting the van to be sealed and taken to the Bayamón Area Command, where a search warrant authorized by prosecutor Héctor Rivera Sánchez and issued by Judge Rocío Alonso González of the San Juan Court was executed.
Inside, authorities recovered a .40-caliber Glock pistol modified to fire automatically, a revolver, two Smith & Wesson pistols, a rifle, two multicaliber Pistol-type firearms, 17 magazines (including one drum magazine), 302 rounds of various calibers, two bags of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a notebook with drug-point accounting records. The evidence was submitted to the Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) to determine if the weapons were used in any crime scene.
