Mary Carmen Zapata Acosta, the former director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (AEE), revealed that she resigned from the public corporation due to the controversy surrounding the temporary power generation contract with Power Expectations, which affected her health. The controversy began on June 17 when E Rock, Inc. denied signing or authorizing its participation in the contract for 400 megawatts in Aguirre, accusing Power Expectations of presenting the agreement without its knowledge or consent.
Zapata Acosta clarified that she was not pressured to resign by the Board of Directors, Governor, or Secretary of the Government. She attributed her resignation to interactions with Juan Ramón González Galarza, a legal advisor to the AEE, who requested information on temporary power contracts that was not provided, creating a stressful situation.
The high media exposure of the controversy also contributed to her decision. Zapata Acosta stated that her last month at the AEE affected her health and that of her family, leading her to resign voluntarily.
