The Puerto Rico Police announced on Monday that the investigation into the murder of tourist Vedhol Alexander Emmanuel Smith, 27, from Florida, is 'well advanced.' Smith was shot and killed on February 2 in Santurce. A suspect, a 23-year-old man, was detained during a police raid in Guaynabo and is being held on drug and weapons charges by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA took custody of the suspect, and a federal magistrate authorized his arrest.
A bail hearing is set for Tuesday, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 28. During the raid, police seized four AK-47 rifles, two Glock pistols, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as crack, cocaine, and marijuana. The Police's Auxiliary Director of Criminal Investigations, Colonel Manuel de Jesús, stated that they expect results soon.
