The Puerto Rico Police are searching for Joniel Domenech Torres, 25, who has been charged in absentia with first-degree murder and several violations of the Weapons Law for events that occurred in August in Ponce. According to the investigation, the events took place on August 24, 2026, in the Dr. Pila residential area, where 48-year-old Omar R. Burgos Cintrón died.
The Police indicated that Domenech Torres allegedly shot Burgos Cintrón, who died immediately. The case was handled by Agent Francisco Álvarez, assigned to the Ponce Homicide Division, and prosecutor José Román, who instructed the filing of charges. Domenech Torres is accused of violating Article 93 D of the Penal Code for first-degree murder and Article 249 A, related to firing a firearm in a way that poses a risk to public safety. He also faces charges under Law 168, the Puerto Rico Weapons Law, for carrying, transporting, or using firearms without a license.
A court issued an arrest warrant with a global bond of $1 million. The Police also reported that Domenech Torres has a prior criminal record for violations of the Weapons and Controlled Substances Law and currently has another arrest warrant with a bond of $70,000.
