San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo stated that improvements have been reported in the capital's potable water supply over the past few weeks, attributing this to the work of a judicially-created committee comprising municipal and Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) officials. Romero Lugo reiterated his criticism of the AAA's leadership, citing a lack of experience as a major contributor to the water supply problems. The mayor noted that the possibility of reinstating the water rationing plan for Carraízo reservoir users has dissipated, although the AAA has not made an official announcement.
The Carraízo reservoir reached a safe level last week after rainfall from tropical waves, but reported a 2-centimeter decrease on Monday, reaching 40.79 meters. Despite this, the reservoir is near overflow levels after weeks of constant reduction, which had led to the implementation of a rationing plan in early August. AAA President Luis González Delgado stated that the increase in the Carraízo reservoir's level reduces the likelihood of implementing an interruption plan.
However, Romero Lugo highlighted that some San Juan communities have been experiencing water supply problems for over 14 months, prompting the Municipio to sue the AAA and leading to the creation of a committee to address these issues.
