The Independent Office of Purchases (3PPO), led by Osvaldo Carlo, has instructed GeneraPR and New Fortress Energy (NFE) to activate an alternative mechanism to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to San Juan's power generators. This comes after a nearly week-long blockage has prevented fuel deliveries, forcing the use of diesel and tripling generation costs.
The 3PPO directive requires GeneraPR to find an alternative gas supplier, distinct from its current supplier, and for NFE to make its San Juan terminal available for deliveries from the selected provider. The parties were given until 5:00 p.m. the previous day to confirm their readiness to proceed with the agreements.
The 3PPO president, Osvaldo Carlo Linares, confirmed that the organization has maintained communication with the shipping company. The crisis in fuel supply has raised concerns about potential increases in electricity bills.
