Teatro Breve is reviving its medieval satire 'Santurcia', a comedy that critiques the problems faced by Puerto Rico, at the El Shorty theater in Santurce. The play, written and directed by Mikephillippe Oliveros in 2015, transports the tensions of San Juan to a medieval kingdom, where it faces disputes with 'Guaynábelot', a medieval version of Guaynabo.
Oliveros shared his enthusiasm for bringing the play back to the stage, which combines drama, satire, and music. The play was originally created in response to a drought in 2015, and the current production coincides with the celebration of Teatro Breve's 20th anniversary.
Actress Lourdes Quiñones, who reprises her role as 'Princesa Leticia', expressed mixed emotions about the play's continued relevance, but sees it as an opportunity to invite the audience to imagine a better future.
