Teatro Breve, a multidisciplinary collective, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the play Santurcia, which retakes the company's principles and values in a comedy that reflects the reality of Puerto Ricans today. The play, written by Mikephillippe Oliveros, is set in a fictional territory that mirrors the current situation in Puerto Rico, with themes of drought and community struggles.
After 11 years, the play has returned to the same stage, Café Teatro Shorty Castro in Santurce, with a new production that aims to make the audience laugh and connect with their own stories. Oliveros, the creator of the play, says his only ambition is to tell the stories of Puerto Ricans with humor and irreverence.
The play has been well-received, and Oliveros feels validated that his effort and vision have paid off, allowing him and his fellow actors to work and live off their passion. Marisé Álvarez, a renowned actress, has also expressed her support for the play and the collective, highlighting the importance of new forms and strategies of communication to amplify their work.
